FTP Service details

FTP stands for file transfer protocol. FTP is used to transfer files from your local machine to the remote server hosting your website and vice versa basically referred to as uploading files and downloading files respectively.

For carrying out ftp you would need a ftp client such as Cute ftp, Ftp voyager or WSFTP

For uploading or downloading files you would need have the following information

1) Ftp host : this is your domain name ex. mydomain.com
2) Ftp login : login name allocated to you ex. : mydomain
3) Ftp password : the password allocated to you. ex. mypassword

Once the above information is ready with you you can configure your ftp client, connect to the internet and then connect to the remote server.

Rules and regulations concerning ftp
 
1) You web pages have to be uploaded to the www folder incase of windows or htdocs folder on linux. Note that the default or the home page has to be one of the following : index.htm, http://www.indiannic.com/index.html, index.asp, default.htm, default.html, index.cfm

2) Never delete any of the folders that you see by default when you login via ftp. This will stop your website from functioning correctly. If you do so in error immediately contact your service provider.

3) All actions carried out via ftp is on a permanent basis. There is no way to reverse the same.

4) Ensure that you keep your logins and passwords securely and only the most trusted personnel be given the same with the same.

5) Always keep a backup of all the files before uploading them. We never keep backups of web pages due to virus related problems. 

6) Always scan all your files with a good antivirus before uploading them. Our realtime antivirus is constantly monitoring all the pages and any virus content will result in immediate deletion of the page
