What are the requirements for hosting your website and how do I go about hosting my website ?
 
There are three aspects to hosting a website.
a) Domain registration, b) Web hosting space and c) Web-pages to placed in the web hosting space

Domain registration is of foremost importance and is the very basis of all of the above. Always ensure that you have full control over your domain. For more details refer to our faq on domains. For example let say you have registered a domain : mydomain.com. Please note that domain registration and web hosting are totally independent of each other.
 
The next step is to point the domain : mydomain.com to our  servers so that when anybody types mydomain .com on the web browser it will go to our servers and your web page will show up. This is achieved by setting the name server information to the ones we provide. The name server information is generally something like : ns1.24x7servers.net and ns2.24x7servers.net. This can be set by logging to your domain control panel and setting the name server information.
 
The final step is to get your Web-pages uploaded to your server space. This is done by using a ftp client client such as cute ftp / ws ftp / ftp voyager. More information on this available here.

What is the difference between windows hosting and linux hosting ?

Basically windows hosting and linux hosting support web hosting. The only difference is the following.
Windows hosting supports : asp php perl coldfusion scripting languages and ms access ms sql and mysql databases
Linux hosting supports : php perl scripting languages and mysql databases
So the difference is that the linux hosting supports lesser items. 

How can I ensure that I have full control over my domain ?

Every web hosting package is provided with a set of email ids. A web based control panel is provided for managing all your email ids and also for managing emails.
