University project
Project description
This project was related to the online declaration of the examination
results for an particular university with around 20000 students. Students
would come online and enter their examination number and retrieve
information on their scores for 8 different courses / subjects.
Project technical details
The project was initially implemented using ms access database and simple
asp programs connecting to the database and retrieving the information.
The program was tested out by the developer at the university and
everything was working fine on their local machine.
Problems faced
The day of the launch the students were complaining that response of
the website was very slow and many a time web site would not open at all
giving an error that server is busy.
Situation analysis
After discussing and coordinating with the programmer we could pinpoint
the following
a) There were about 200 students accessing the website any given time
creating a tremendous load on the website.
b) The number of queries fired on the database was far beyond the
capabilities of the ms access database.
c) The basic connection string to the database was kept in a separate
file.
Solution delivered
Within 15 minutes of the analysis of the problem the solution was
delivered
a) An ms sql 2000 database was created with a secure username and password
b) The connection string was modified and the database connectivity was
checked via the website.
c) The ms access database was imported into the ms sql server database.
d) After the migration was complete the application was tested and
launched once again.
Real-time performance
The website performance and query delivery speed had increased by over 20
times.
At the peak usage there were over 1300 users querying the website

Logistics management system for

Project description
These companies are involved in large scale cargo transportation over the
sea and has offices in over 300 locations globally. This project related
to order booking and shipping logistics of the containers. Orders were
booked in real-time and data is continuously entered by around 200 users
at a time. The primary requirement of this application is extremely fast
response of the website and 100 percent uptime.
Project Implementation
This project was implemented on high end enterprise level servers Dual
Xeon processors, 1 GB ECC RAM 73 GB scsi drives so that there is no change
of any outage. The backend is MS SQL 2000 database with 23 databases
totaling to a size of over 1000 MB. Daily backups of each of the database
is done, zipped up and transferred via ftp to 2
other independent servers for total safety of data. Backups are
stored for upto 7 daily backups. Client is provided a web interface to
download backups on a daily basis.
Real-time performance
The application performance was excellent delivering the requirements of
the customer. Inspite of heavy usage of the application there were no
problems. Regular support was delivered during application upgrades which
were carried out smoothly.
